Trusting God in Marriage: 1 Peter 3:1-7 (Sermon)

WELCOME Hi, I am pastor Rob. Do you know what this is? It is a ten-foot pole. Have you heard the saying, “I am not going to touch it with a ten-foot pole? Well, today I am. I am a bit scared. What comforts me is that I am going to try to let God’s Word speak for itself. So what is my subject? Well, it is 1 Peter. That doesn’t sound so bad. But it is about marriage. That is good. However, it’s about trusting God in marriage. Still, that doesn’t sound horrible. Okay, if you missed Pastor Mike’s Sunday school class, let’s dive in and read the passage. Likely you will understand my reluctance. We will be reading from 1 Peter 3:1–7. I have asked J. and J. B. to read for us this morning. Please follow along as we go. TEXT 3 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and th…

By Canoe and Dog Train: The Adventures of Sharing the Gospel with Canadian Indians by Egerton Young (Free)

Aneko Press is offering By Canoe and Dog Train: The Adventures of Sharing the Gospel with Canadian Indians by Egerton Ryerson Young free! From the publisher: To be a missionary to Canadian Indians in the late 1800s meant you had to be brave and relentless. It meant nearly freezing when sleeping outside in 50-below-zero weather. It meant canoeing upstream for hundreds of miles to reach remote Indian villages. It meant eating wild cat and other stranger things, or eating nothing for days at a time. But it also meant you were privileged to present the good news of the true Great Spirit to those who were often misunderstood and mistreated. The adventures in this book are rivaled only by the incredible conversions of those who saw the Creator in nature and then worshipped Him too. You will be challenged and inspired by the results of one man who went where the Lord led, with little regard for himself.

Surprised by Faith: A Skeptic Discovers More to Life than What We Can See, Touch, and Measure by Dr. Bierle (Free)

For a limited time, you can get a copy of Surprised by Faith: A Skeptic Discovers More to Life than What We Can See, Touch, and Measure by Dr. Don Bierle FREE!
From the publisher:The world is changing so rapidly that many are shaken with uncertainties. This is compounded by an erosion of confidence in absolute truth and traditional values. The result is a floundering search for a reliable source of purpose and meaning in life. Fear, not anticipation, fills some hearts as people think about the future. Some contend that turning to faith is anti-intellectual. “God is about religion,” they say, “a crutch for the weak.” These are mere caricatures resulting from ignorance. This book confronts false stereotypes and examines the astonishing body of scientific and historical evidence supporting the truth that God exists and cares about people’s future. This is the Gospel with evidence.
As a college student, amid academic success and athletic achievement, Don Bierle began searching for answers …

From the publisher: Lew Wallace’s powerful and poignant story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince from Jerusalem living at the time of Jesus Christ, has been around for more than a century, yet it continues to attract and inspire readers to this day.
Falsely accused of attempting to assassinate a Roman governor, Ben-Hur is enslaved and sentenced to work on a Roman galley, while his mother and sister are imprisoned and their possessions and land confiscated. Luckily, he survives when the ship is attacked by pirates, and comes home, determined to find his family and intent on revenge on the Romans. While organizing a resistance force, he journeys to see John the Baptist. After he realizes that Jesus stands for forgiveness rather than revenge, Ben-Hur becomes one of his followers and devotes his life to the church after the crucifixion.
First published in 1880, Ben-Hur became a bestselling book upon publication, and was adapted to the cele…
