Praying the Bible by Donald Whitney (Review)

The first post is an easy one. It is a book review.

How do you pray?

Prayer can be hard. Let me encourage you to pray the Bible. Donald Whitney is a blessing to the church as a pastor, author, and professor. He wrote Praying the Bible which I have just read and found it to be an encouragement to my own prayer life.

The reality is that the types of things we pray don’t change. We pray for our family, work, school, healthy, safety, provision, and the same old things about the same old things. The end result of praying the same old things about the same old things results in boredom, shallowness, and a wandering mind. Praying the Bible counters this head-on.

John Piper has said, "If I try to pray for people or events without having the word in front of me guiding my prayers, then several negative things happen. One is that I tend to be very repetitive…. I just pray the same things all the time. Another negative thing is that my mind tends to wander."

Robert Murray M’Cheyne said, "Turn the Bible into prayer… This is the best way of knowing the meaning of the Bible, and of learning to pray."

Let me encourage you to pray as you read the Bible. If you want a good book to read this year, put this one on your list.

Thanks again!
